The smallmouth have keyed in on hellgrammite
patterns. Low water has concentrated the bass in deep runs and
tailouts during high sun. The best bite has been early in the
morning till 10 am. The popper bite has been best in the early
evening till dark. White and chartreuse bugs have produced best.
Good patterns to try are the Shenandoah Chugger and Dixie Devil.
Thunderstorms in the afternoon have just begun to raise the
water levels. The next couple weeks look to be prime time for
smallmouth float trips.
